What are compound feed and premixed feed?
What is Compound Feed?
Based on nutritional components and production levels, industrial feeds for pigs in production can be divided into complete compound feed, concentrated feed and premixed feed (additive premix). Compound feed, also known as complete compound feed, refers to a nutritionally balanced feed product uniformly prepared from a variety of feed raw materials and additives through specified processing techniques. Its formulation is tailored to the nutrient requirements of pigs of different breeds, purposes, growth stages and production levels, as well as their digestive and physiological characteristics at each stage. Compound feed can fully meet the nutritional needs of pigs for growth, reproduction and production. Except for water, no additional substances need to be added, and it can be directly fed to pigs. It is available in various forms including powder, pellets, liquid feed and extruded feed.
What is Premixed Feed?
Premixed feed, also referred to as additive premix or simply premix, is a semi-finished feed product prepared by mixing nutritional additives (vitamins, mineral trace elements, amino acids, etc.) and non-nutritional additives with an appropriate amount of carriers (stone powder, corn flour, etc.) in a fixed ratio. Premixed feed cannot be directly fed to pigs; it must be blended with other feeds in a certain proportion before feeding. As the core component of compound feed, it is also sometimes called core feed or minor feed.
